This Zetland terrace project involved a first-floor addition to introduce an additional bedroom, bathroom and north-facing deck, along with a new rear garage and studio, while carefully retaining the recently renovated kitchen and bathroom at ground level.

The design response focused on transforming an otherwise dark and constrained home by improving light, airflow and visual connection throughout. A central void and light well were introduced, allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the plan and creating stronger relationships between living spaces, circulation areas and existing rooms.

The challenge was bringing light and airflow into a dark terrace while retaining the existing kitchen and bathroom. Introducing a central void and light well allowed light to move through the house, opening up views and improving the way the spaces connect.
